Benjamin meets the Transformers

Thursday night Jeff & I did something spontaneous. Some friends of ours had free tickets to an advance showing of Transformers and offered to share. So we drove 1.5 hours to Greenville (ok, mostly to see these friends, not so much because we were dying to see T, though who could pass up a free movie?) It was a great time, we ended up seeing several people there we knew, and I even got some nice maternity clothes out of the bargain (thank you Michelle!). The movie was pretty intense. There were lots of blurred machine parts flying around, like a cyclone hitting your local Grease Monkey.
But the funny part was Benjamin's reaction to the sound--jumping at the loud parts and curling himself into a ball on my right side. I found myself covering my side with my arms trying to protect his sensitive little ears. But the woman with the 3-month-old being passed down the aisle from friend to friend made me feel like a better mom. Her little guy seemed perfectly oblivious and content in all the noise!
It is funny how protective you start to feel even before you MEET your little person!
It's been fun lately to share Benjamin's hiccups with Jeff (happens when they swallow too much amniotic fluid too quickly) and his bigger movements. He's not a punch-punch kick-kick kind of baby, but he's constantly in motion. Last night he did an all-over body wriggle. But usually it's just constant gentle movement. It feels like he's hammocked with his head on my left side and feet up under my right ribs.

oh I love all the movements the baby makes! Truly is a wonderful feeling. Glad you guys had a good time at the movies and seeing friends. Who would take a 3 month old to the movies? Seriously.

Anyway, thanks for the fun baby kicking hiccuping update. Made me smile of the excitement you are feeling!

Hey, did you meet with the doulas and find one you click with?

Emily was my constant Hiccup-per. She didn't do as much after though; I was surprised!:)
Happy to hear all your mommy moments.

I'm so glad you're enjoying your pregnancy! I remember Gracie would get the hiccups four or five times a day, every day!

They're having a duola tea July 16, so I think I'll wait until then when I can meet all of them. It should be helpful to hear their educational spiel too.
The hiccups are so funny. He doesn't get them as often as Gracie...wow...but everytime he does I run over to let Jeff feel!

I thought I would reply to a comment from you here... do you have wild blackberries in your area to pick? I bet the jam was delicious. I truly wanted to pick blackberries that we have on our property and make jam but never got around to it. I did manage to make a blackberry pie which was soooo delicious! Next year seems like a long time to wait for blackberry season again to make some jam. Hope you can make more for yourself sometime soon.

They grow wild in the park (some in our woods too). Jeff's mom showed me how to wash them, then freeze, and when you have enough you can make jam. Only thing I need to make my own is a "food mill" to get some of the seeds out.

Blackberry pie sounds good! I think I'll try a cobbler with the ones I have left over. I have a recipe from Ma-Ma...mostly sugar and butter for the topping but soo good! :)

A food mill to get the seeds out? How is a food mill different from a grain mill? I have a grain mill. We just picked our 6th cup of blackberries and I am going to make jam. I figured it would be with the seeds since I have no way of removing the seeds.

oh will Benjamin ever love walking through the park eating wild blackberries... but beware of nasty diapers after a walk eating a tummy full! But worth it for the nutrition! i need to get a picture of Trevor's face by the time we get home from our walk eating blackberries!

You are welcome for the birth plan... would love to see your as well. I find them interesting!

I don't know if there's a difference...I've never heard of a grain mill. The food mill my MIL has is like a collander with a crank handle that scrapes across the collander and presses the food against the little holes in it. It gets most of the seeds out but not all. I don't mind the seeds too much...it still tastes good. :)
A tip she told me...you can use less sugar if you boil it longer (20 min at least) and don't use pectin/serta. Also she said it gels every time that way, unlike serta which occasionally doesn't work. You can test the "gel" ness of it by putting a plate in the freezer and dripping a bit on the plate...of course I've never done all this by myself, but I watched her do it.
Some of the BEST jam I've had is her black and blueberry jam. Whole blueberries with blackberry jam. I don't know how she makes it, but boy is it good :)
