Decorating n' stuff
I've been thinking alot about how to decorate our new house, and since I have nothing else to do this week...no teaching...I noodled around the internet. Here are the best sites I found for home ideas. Of course, all the friends reading this blog have impeccable homes and a great sense of style, but a few more ideas don't hurt--right?
Great videos; also check the other tabs for decorating on a budget

Great ideas and articles.

Good ol' Martha Stewart. Amazingly, she's still 30 years old--ha! And full of great cleaning ideas to make you feel guilty. :)

Many pictures of beautiful sample rooms.

I love this book...bought it recently and found the q's and workbook format very helpful. It helps you figure out your personal tastes and needs. I used it on a friend and it was almost like magic...she suddenly knew beyond a doubt what direction to go with her decorating style!

So we are the same except the second, and the traditional things they showed didn't really float my boat...
I love decorating, especially with found objects, family stuff, great deals, consignment store finds, and a few nice pieces: can't wait to help you! I loved the pictures you had as well.
Hey Laurance, thanks for the news. It was good seeing you and Kimberly this Christmas...we are excited for you!
Elizabeth, it sounds like our styles are so much alike. I love using nature objects to decorate--like grapevine wreaths (wait, did I get that from you?), tall grass in a vase, rocks from a beach in Maine. I haven't done much consignment shopping but I'm going to look around and see what I can find.
By the way I scrounged up some sections to a wooden pillar at Ma-Ma's this Christmas--heehee. They're like little round frames. I'm going to fit each with mirror and put them in my heritage/sewing room...along with some framed old pics of Ma-Ma and Ba-Ba...I got the idea from a magazine to have a "heritage corner"...I thought it was a great idea!
Thanks for sharing, Em! My decorating decor is romantic. Interesting. I'd love to borrow that book sometime!
And love! your idea for a heritage room.
Well I needed those quizzes considering I have no idea what style I am. Plus everything in our house is hand-me-downs, except the LR sofas we bought!

Emmie,
There is an old sewing machine in the attic at MaMa's: its beautiful and sentimental: I'm sure she'd love to have you use it: even if you just use the table for your machine or decor... Do you have those black and white pics of MaMa and BaBa in their 20s? or how about the one of her in that dress that fits you? Do you still have the dress: It would be beautiful framed or hung on the wall...hmmm
I've always wanted a sewing room. I'll keep bombarding you with ideas if you want...I need a new project...

I love the "Heritage Corner" idea. I have old photos of my Grandparents and Mom and would have many more out and framed if I had the room! I love old things and they're so special when they belonged to people that we love! (Oh, how I wish I had a dress that my Grandma wore when she was young! How special! Love Elizabeth's idea - you could put it in a shadowbox) Karanena
That is a great idea...I still have the dress! I hadn't thought of framing it. What a wonderful idea. :) I have a bunch of old pics of Ma-Ma and Ba-Ba. I scanned a lot from their old albums...they're on a much earlier post if you want to look.
I would love to have that old sewing machine. It's a beautiful old antique. Yes, please do bombard me with more ideas!!
It was fun seeing what everyone's style is. Funny how many "greens" there are. Letisha, I can't believe your house is all hand-me-downs...your house looks great...like you picked everything out!
Well thanks for the compliement. But if you look closely at our kitchen/dining room table picture you can see their are no chairs! The table is from Daniel's parents and we have not bought benches for the table. For now we use the piano bench and some kiddie chairs. oh well, it works, kinda.
